Digit cape’s Description
Extensive customer research revealed that the most important system features for fleet managers were response time and reporting speed. The Digit system has been designed from the ground up to provide the best performance using our unique ‘Off-Line’ concept.
Almost every software feature can be used completely Off-Line, so you are are not limited by bandwidth, connection speed and availability.
For the first time ever the total management of your fleet is totally in your hands, available at your fingertips, saving you money and freeing your time to run your business.
Digit Fleet Management & Tracking
The Digit system is designed as an automatic fully electronic logbook, which will record every journey a vehicle makes, where it started from, the route traveled, at what speeds, where it went to and for how long it stopped before starting the next journey. The system includes PC software and mapping, so it is not necessary to login to a slow and tedious website, as all the calculations, routes, maps, graphs, reports, printouts etc are done right here on your own computer.
We listened to the customers and they all agree: time is money. We have designed a fleet management system where the control is back in your hands. No phoning a call centre to find out where your vehicle is. No slow downloads while you wait for reports to come off the internet. No need to go online to see reports and print routes.
The Income Tax Act No.58 of 1962 allows taxpayers who receive a travel allowance to claim a deduction for the use of their private vehicle for business purposes. In order to claim a deduction, the first step is to record your vehicle’s odometer reading on 1 March each year (the first day of the tax year for individuals) and again on the last day of February the next year (the last day of the tax year for individuals). These opening and closing readings give you your total kilometres travelled for the year. And recording your mileage will help you make an accurate claim when submitting your tax return.
Calculating a travel deduction if you are in receipt of a travel allowance
It is important to note that travel between your home and place of work cannot be claimed and is regarded as private travel. Without these readings, you cannot claim a tax deduction!
It is now compulsory to keep a logbook of all your travel in which you record what travel was for business and what travel was for private purposes if you want to claim a travel deduction. Without a logbook, you will not be able to claim a travel deduction.
You are now ready to calculate the amount of your claim.
As a taxpayer you have two choices:
- You can calculate your claim based on the table of costs supplied by SARS each year. You will find the cost tables which apply to the tax year from 1 March 2011 to 29 February 2012 on the SARS website. You need not have kept an accurate record of all your expenses – simply use the costs linked to the value of your vehicle.
- Alternatively, you can calculate your claim based on the actual costs. You will have to have kept an accurate record of all your expenses during the year, including fuel, maintenance, lease and insurance costs. Please note that you must retain your logbook for a period of at least five years as you may be required to submit it to SARS for verification of your claim.
Stop doing it manually – get the easy to use DIGIT software installed – calculate your entire years expenses at the click of a button.
Q: Does Digit offer recovery?
A: Yes. Clients that subscribe to recovery need to register so that the control room can identify your vehicle in the event of a theft. The 24-hour control room can initiate the recovery and keep you informed of the progress.
Q: Does the installation affect my vehicle warranty or motor plan?
A: No. There are only two wires that need to be connected and this can be connected directly to the car battery. No cutting into the wiring harness is necessary.
Q: Is Digit available nationwide?
A: Yes. We have over 60 distributors and installation centres. The product works almost anywhere in the world and is well represented in Africa and expanding into Europe.
Q: Can the system be used to recover a stolen vehicle?
A: Yes. An optional cut-out system can be added to cut off power to the engine in the event of it being required. This is done in a controlled manner.
Q: How many vehicles can the system accommodate?
A: The system is designed to handle up to 1000 vehicles on one PC. Although it would probably be more practical to have this size fleet spread over a number of PCs for logistical reasons
Q: Can I label common places that vehicles go such as the office or my clients?
A: Yes the software allows you to set locations (Geo fence) which can be marked and sized. You can also set live track alarms to notify you of when a vehicle exits or enters a location.
Q: Can I be informed of vehicle movement via SMS?
A: Yes, by sending a simple alarm command to the Digit, you will be notified via SMS the moment your vehicle is moved.
Q: Is the Digit contract 36 months like most other vehicle tracking companies?
A: No, there are cash options that function on a month to month basis. You are not tied to paying for obsolete hardware for years afterwards.
Q: On what do you guys base the statement that Digit should pay for itself?
A: Based on current petrol prices, the cost of running a vehicle and driver salaries a vehicle only has to save 2km of unauthorized trips a day in order to pay for itself.
Q: Is it possible to see where my car is from my cellphone?
A: If your cellphone has a web browser you can login and see your vehicle or use the Digit app on your smart phone.
Q: Can Dfuel guarantee that all fuel thefts will be detected?
A: While it is possible to detect all fuel fluctuations, setting an alarm threshold too sensitive is not practical.
Q: Does Dfuel automatically add my fuel slips?
A: The system automatically shows the detected fuel added or used. By inputting the fuel slips manually you can compare to check if the fuel was genuinely added to the vehicle, or if some was taken away in a jerry can.
Q: How good is the Digit technology?
A: Digit is a class leader with more functions and more features than any comparable product on the market. The is almost nothing the Digit cannot do.
Q: Is the Digit product imported?
A: No. Digit believes in supporting the local industry. Our products are locally manufactured, developed and supported, and head office has a great stock holding thus ensuring rapid delivery.
Q: Is it possible to get a demo of the product?
A: Yes. If you contact a local distributor they can arrange to show you the features and functions of the product. Once the product is installed the distributor can offer training and support.
Q: Why is the Digit system so popular?
A: We feel that clients enjoy the off-line availability of the product. This means many more, and more detailed reports are available without an internet connection. The savings in time are beyond belief.
